Quirks of the DNC

Whenever there is a big gathering of people, you can expect some weird things to go down. The Democratic National Convention was no exception. Our producers aggregated silly stories from different publications while our reporters in Charlotte scanned the crowds to find these peculiar goings-ons. So in between the conventional DNC articles that you are bound to read, we recommend you have a good laugh at the unconventional side of the convention.

If you’re on a mobile device, swipe through the slides to see the quirks we found.

Stella Adams will NOT be loosening up her buttons considering that her hat, bedazzled with buttons from the last five conventions, has kept her company for 20 years.

The Tea Party has been the butt of many a joke these last few years. But Connecticut delegate Audrey Blondin took it to a whole new level with her flamboyant costume at the DNC. Blondin said that the tea bags in her costume made tea when it rained Sept. 4.

Julian Castro’s daughter did not shy away from the camera during her father’s speech at the DNC. His sweet comment on his daughter’s future was met with laughter from the crowd: “She’s still young and her dreams are far off yet, but I hope she’ll reach them.” The crowd laughed not because what he said was particularly funny, but because she was flipping her hair in a way that put Willow Smith to shame.

Media outlets raved about Michelle Obama’s speech Sept. 4 at the DNC in Charlotte. A man named Bobby Finger, who has written for different sites such as Hairpin and Gawker, posted this animated gif on his tumblr page, giving a shout-out to the First Lady as being perfect. He wrote, “You know how you can bring a photo of a desired style when getting a haircut? I wanna take a video of Michelle Obama if I ever adopt a kid.”

Luna Lovegood in league with Obama? It seems that “those of wit and learning,” as the Sorting Hat described Ravenclaws in the first Harry Potter book, support the political agenda of Obama. Considering that wisdom is the most cherished character trait of a Ravenclaw student, it would appear that the supporters are suggesting that only dumb people would vote against Obama. Wonder what Dumbledore’s thoughts on this are?
